Privacy Policy
MealMimic is built around a simple promise: your scans are yours. This policy explains, in plain English, what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
The short version
- We don’t sell your data. Ever.
- We don’t run ad networks or tracking SDKs.
- Your dish scans are private by default. Discover is opt-in per recipe.
- You can delete your account and all associated data in one tap from Settings.
What we collect
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and, if you sign in with Apple or Google, the basic profile information they share with us.
Dish photos and recipes. When you scan a dish, we send the photo to our servers for processing. We store the resulting recipe in your library. Source photos are kept for up to 30 days for quality and abuse review, then deleted, unless you explicitly save them to your library.
Usage data. We collect basic, anonymized usage information — which features you use, how often, what crashed — to improve the app. We do not associate this with your identity.
Device information. Standard device info (model, OS version, app version, language, time zone) for compatibility and debugging.
What we don’t collect
No precise location. No contacts. No microphone. No camera access outside of an active scan. No third-party advertising identifiers.
How we use your data
- To identify dishes and generate recipes from your scans;
- To save your library and sync it across your devices;
- To improve the underlying recipe model — using anonymized, aggregated signals only;
- To send you account and product emails (you can turn off the latter);
- To detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and security threats.
We never use your scans to train our model for other customers without your explicit opt-in.
Discover and sharing
Discover is the part of MealMimic where home cooks share recreations of restaurant dishes. It is opt-in per recipe. When you choose to share a recipe, the recipe and any caption you add are visible to other users. The original source photo is not shared unless you choose to include it.
Service providers
We use a small set of third-party services to run MealMimic: cloud hosting (AWS), error tracking (Sentry), analytics (PostHog, self-hosted), and email delivery (Postmark). They process data on our behalf under written data-protection agreements and cannot use your data for their own purposes.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate data;
- Delete your account and all associated data;
- Export your library as a portable file (Settings → Export).
For users in the EU, UK, and California, you also have rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA respectively, including the right to object to processing and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
Data retention
We keep your account data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your library and personal data within 30 days. Anonymized, aggregated analytics may persist beyond that point because they cannot be linked to you.
Children
MealMimic is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact info@designaxe.com and we will delete it.
International transfers
Our servers are in the United States. If you use MealMimic from outside the US, your data will be transferred to and processed in the US under appropriate safeguards (Standard Contractual Clauses where required).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect.
